Van Vliet Transport and De Klok Logistics about corona measures "Logistics sector deserves compliments for the corona approach"
The corona crisis affects all sectors, including transport and logistics. Van Vliet Transport (Vianen) and De Klok Logistics (Nijmegen) give a glimpse into the kitchen: how are they dealing with the measures and consequences so far? Director Remco Vos: "The sector is generally decisive and professional, we are proud to be part of it."
Nijmegen, June 9, 2020 Van Vliet Transport (VVT) and De Klok Logistics (DKL) took measures at an early stage to keep out the corona virus. Remco Vos says: “We started providing information even before the Prime Minister's first press conference. We then distributed tools to our people, such as gloves and cleaning wipes. Our drivers are in a risk group due to the many contact moments in a day, so we thought it was important to protect them and our customers well. ”
When the virus gained ground in the Netherlands, the number of measures at VVT and DKL was increased. The companies are divided into zones, so that there are as few people as possible in a room at the same time. The hygiene measures are clearly visible through the various buildings. Since then, a large proportion of office workers have also worked from home. “And we agreed with customers and drivers how we could design the contact at the delivery addresses in a different way. Both parties have responded positively and have been flexible. ” The overall approach has resulted in a positive RI&E assessment.
Firm in your shoes
Like many companies, VVT and DKL also experience fluctuations in turnover. It is an exciting time, Remco acknowledges. “Some customers are busier, while other companies lose all trade. You can double or halve your turnover every day. A new dimension of entrepreneurship has been added, in which you have to stand firmly in your shoes. We do our utmost to anticipate volume increases and decreases. We can keep our delivery times up to date thanks to our people. They are 100% committed and absenteeism due to illness is low. We really appreciate that. ”
Importance of the sector Remco praises the way in which the transport and logistics sector has so far dealt with the corona crisis. “As a sector, we act decisively and flexibly. We have shown that we can also deal with this. And this shows how important the logistics sector is: many companies can continue thanks to transport. That certainly deserves a compliment. ” Think differently Corona will continue to change many companies, including VVT and DKL. “This crisis forces you to think differently and to take certain steps faster. Things like working from home and remote meetings have now been introduced much earlier. Fortunately, we were already geared up for that. We have been investing in advanced IT systems and automation for years. We like to take the lead in this. You also need to be flexible and be able to scale up and down your production capacity.
We are hopeful that we will get through this 'competition' well, with a healthy basis for the future. ” www.vanvliettransport.nl & www.dkl.nl
